Ford Explorer as Likely to Roll Over with Any Tires, Ford Test Results Show

Ford test results submitted into evidence in a Mississippi Ford Explorer lawsuit show that the Ford Explorer was just as likely to rollover with Goodyear, Michelin, Continental and other tire manufacturers as it was with Bridgestone Firestone tires. The company approved some failed tires as replacements, according to Ford documents. The Explorer tipped most frequently in the vehicle's two-wheel-drive model.
 
Ford spokeswoman Karen Shaughnessy said in an e-mail that "Ford performed extensive testing and analysis before approving any replacement tires. No single factor determined whether a specific tire was approved as a replacement tire."
